Promoting a culture of protection
Everyone who comes to a Jesuit ministry in Asia Pacific — a school, a parish, a retreat house, a social centre, a refugee service — should be safe there. Keeping people safe is the work of every Jesuit and every companion in the mission.
Safeguarding is prevention — training, policy and practice. This network does not receive or investigate complaints. Professional standards matters go to the relevant Provincial or Regional Superior. Where to take a complaint
What this network is
Safeguarding is the work to prevent harm
We are here so that harm does not happen in the first place — and so that when someone is worried, they know exactly who to talk to. That work is patient and unglamorous: teaching, writing, checking, and asking again next year.
What we do
Training and formation for everyone involved in the Jesuit mission — Jesuits, staff, teachers, volunteers
Safeguarding policies and clear codes of conduct in every ministry
Safe recruitment, screening and supervision practice
Listening to survivors, accompaniment, and referral to proper care
A delegate in every place — thirteen Provinces, Regions and Missions across seventeen countries
Reviewing our own practice honestly, and reporting on it
What we do not do — professional standards
Receive or register complaints about conduct
Investigate allegations or gather evidence
Make findings, or decide whether a complaint is substantiated
Impose discipline, or conduct canonical or civil process
Act as a reporting channel or hotline
Support and redress agreed with complainants
Those responsibilities belong to each Province and Region, under its Provincial or Regional Superior, in line with local law and the professional standards process of the Society of Jesus. The separation is deliberate: it keeps prevention honest and complaints properly handled.

A commitment of the whole Society of Jesus, carried in this Conference by delegates in every Province and Region.
At its 36th General Congregation in 2016, the Society of Jesus acknowledged the profound harm caused by the abuse of minors and adults at risk, and committed itself to safeguarding as an essential part of the mission. In 2018 Fr General Arturo Sosa SJ launched the Promotion of a Consistent Culture of Protection — a global commitment to prevent all forms of abuse, within and beyond the Church.
In Asia Pacific this is carried out province by province, in seventeen countries and many languages, with delegates who meet, train together, and hold one another to account.

Where to take a complaint
If you have been harmed, or you are worried about someone else, you deserve a clear answer about where to go. A safeguarding delegate can sit with you and help you find the right person — but the complaint itself belongs with the Provincial or Regional Superior of the place where it happened.
If anyone is in danger now
Contact your local police or emergency services first, then tell the Provincial or Regional Superior. Reporting to civil authorities always comes first, and is never delayed for an internal process.
About a Jesuit, or a person in a Jesuit ministry
Write to the Provincial or Regional Superior of the Province or Region where it happened. Complaints are received, assessed and determined there, under local law and the Society’s professional standards process.
